Comprehensive Advanced Grief Skills Training

Here's What You'll Get in 6 Modules!!

This six module Advanced Grief Training for Mental Health Professionals prepares clinicians to help clients heal through their grief. It gives clinicians the tools to confidently assess and evaluate symptoms, psycho-educate and treat clients impacted by their grief. Using a multimedia format that incorporates video workshops with accompanying Powerpoint presentations, handouts, podcasts and research articles, this training provides relevant and current instruction across different types of loss and types of clients, in a comprehensive approach. Throughout the training, clinicians can access detailed lists of resources to provide clients with additional support in and outside the sessions.

Participants will expand their knowledge on specific types of loss, including stigmatized or traumatic loss like suicide, overdose and substance-related death and loss by violence. Clinicians will also explore pregnancy and infant loss, as well as pet loss, in order to gain the expertise needed to help clients experiencing all types of grief. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of how to work with clients regardless of age, including developmentally appropriate approaches to children and adolescents, as well as adults. Clinicians will learn how to help both grieving individuals and families as they deal with parent, child, partner and sibling loss.

Setting the Foundations

Creating support and confidence from the first session

  • Set goals for each person so you can get clarity on what you need to specialize in grief in private practice.
  • Review the basics of Grief therapy and revisit the 3 R's of the Pain of Grief so we have a structured foundation to refer to when we go diving next week.
  • How to offer hope without sounding contrite.
    • Grief Symptoms in 7 areas of functioning Video (39 mins)
    • Handouts included are:
      • The 3 R's of the Pain of Grief
      • Top 10 Questions to ask clients about their recent loss
      • Grief Symptoms List

Stigmatized Loss and Disenfranchised Grief

Addressing the Grief in Trauma

  • Suicide Loss: Video (50 mins) How to help your clients and yourself.
  • Overdose or Alcohol Related Death Grief: Video (50 mins)

With the rapid rise in opiate use, especially in the adult population, more and more families are going face to face with the terrible tragedy of overdose fatalities.

  • Loss by Violence: Murder, Assault, Rape, Loss of safety and trust.

Family Loss as Adults

Family Loss for the adults

  • Parent Loss as an Adult Video (55 mins)

    • The parent-child bond is perhaps the most fundamental of all human ties. Often the death of a parent can be monumental in its significance. It is the loss that we anticipate most often and yet the one that has a greater impact than we expect.
  • Loss of an Adult Child Video (44 mins)
    • The death or loss of a child, at any age, is out of sync with the "natural order" of life. However, when the child is an adult, the parents often find their grief to be diminished or overlooked

It becomes further complicated when the death is related to suicide, alcohol or substance abuse, or other social stigma related causes.

Then...what about dealing with their adult child's spouse and grandchildren?

  • Spouse/Partner Loss Video (54 mins)
    • The death of a partner or spouse is a life-changing experience with many secondary losses inherent in the process.

Family Loss for the kids

Family Loss for the kids and teens

We'll be talking kid grief, teen grief and sibling grief.

  • Kid Grief Developmental guidelines for working with kids
  • Teen Grief Video (65 mins)
    • What is it like for teenagers when someone close to them dies?
    • How do they respond to the death of a parent, a sibling, a relative, a friend?
    • What about when their first love ends?
    • For teens, grieving the loss of a loved one can be especially challenging because adolescents are still maturing mentally and emotionally.
  • Sibling Grief Video (68 mins)
    • When a child or teen in the family dies, most of the focus is on the parents' grief. The younger children in the family are tended to, or those who appear to be "fragile" but the other siblings are also lost in a family that has been turned upside down. It is the remaining siblings who are overlooked as another primary griever.

The Devastating Loss of a Child

The loss of a young life is the loss of the future hopes, dreams and expectations

  • Pregnancy and Infant Loss: Another kind of Disenfranchised Grief Video (32 mins)
    • The pain and isolation of pregnancy/infant loss is devastating. Couples (and individuals) not only find it hard to know how to support each other but also find themselves in communities where there are well-meaning friends and family who don't know what to say and tend to change the subject or offer unsolicited advice.
  • Child and Teen Loss
    • It is often referred to as the "worst loss" one can experience. It is a heartbreaking loss that also encompasses so many lost hopes, dreams and expectations for the future.

Pet Loss and other losses of the heart

Companion animal loss and other losses of the heart and soul

  • Pet Loss Video (50 mins)
    • Pets, whether furry or scaly, love us unconditionally. Often the loss of these relationships can be traumatic. Animal lovers often feel judged for their grief when their companion has died. Also, find out how to help children and their families with the pending death of their pet.
  • Case Consultation and Private Practice tips
    • Final review of cases related to grief.
    • Tips about specializing in grief in a private practice setting.

I was drawn to take Debi Frankle’s Grief Course after her presentation for OC CAMFT.

In that first presentation,  I learned so much that I was compelled to take her training.  In fact, I did 3 training segments with Debi from April to August 2020, concluding with Advanced Grief Training.

Debi strikes the right balance between head knowledge and heart knowledge.  She comprehensively provides the most current information and resources on grief, while sharing her keen understanding of the emotions and experience of the griever.

As a clinician, I benefitted immensely from Debi’s grief therapy tools and her case consultations during the Advanced Grief Training classes. I highly recommend her training to all clinicians.

It will without a doubt enhance your skills and attunement with your clients!

Debi is beyond a wealth of knowledge in the area of grief.

I have learned so much in her classes, from her videos, resources, and Zoom group meetings.

Not only that, but in those groups, she pulls resources, book recommendations and knowledge off the top of her head.

I’ve been practicing over 30 years, and the knowledge I acquired from Debi’s courses have been invaluable.

If you are in the helping field, I cannot begin to tell you what you will gain from Debi and her unending knowledge of grief.

 Hi, I'm Debi Jenkins Frankle,

and I help clinicians feel confident to take on grief.

I teach you how to go in-depth with the losses your clients are struggling with so you can feel confident to empower your clients.

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and

Loss & Grief Expert.

Why do we usually say “grief and loss”? It seems kind of silly because we have the loss first THEN the tsunami of GRIEF.

It's true that I've had a lot of losses but that's NOT what has made me a successful grief therapist.

I have been focused (for more than 25 years!) on how to help people transform their lives when confronted with devastating losses.

And I am passionate about helping YOU transform yourself as a clinician. Grief comes in our offices everyday. And once you recognize it and know how to handle it, you'll be able to expand your practice so we can heal the world!!

Is this Course Right for You?

Here's what you DO want to do

  • Learn how to avoid the common mistakes and assumptions that therapists make about grief.

  • Increase your confidence and competence when it comes to grief.

  • Prepare your practice by accumulating a wide variety of resources and tools to use in session and give for homework.

  • Provide yourself the opportunity to learn something new, to transform your practice, and to attract new clientele (and boost your income) by adding grief counseling services.

  • Acquire a solid foundation and framework to conceptualize clients' losses, grief reactions and treatment options.

What you DON'T want to do

  • Wait until you become more drained and burned out.

  • Remain stuck with your clients' grief.

  • Wait until your clients' grief becomes worse over time.

  • Do a disservice to your client by assuming you treat grief the same way you treat everything else

The value of this training is $995

$695 (and includes 20 CE's)

You can also do a 3 payment plan of $245 biweekly

No Thanks, I have enough grief.
